For his new sports car Aston Martin has once again joined forces with Red Bull Advanced technologies. This time they’ve come up with the AM-RB 003 – the next-generation hybrid hypercar that not only draws from the ethos and DNA of Aston Martin Valkyrie, but will in turn influence Aston Martin’s first series production mid-engined. This new supercar’s objective is very clear, reducing the gap between the Valkyrie and Vanquish and cut out as much weight as possible to generate a maximum speed by making partially use of 3D printing.
To achieve the main objective of cutting out weight of this new supercar, Aston Martin hasn’t even included a dashboard touchscreen. Instead, if you want to use navigation, or tap through Spotify, you will have to stick your phone in a compartment on the dashboard.
After previous avant-garde car designs, it will not surprise to see Aston Martin pushing new manufacturing methods like 3D printing in the development of the interior aspects and some of its finishes. With the thin center console for example material use can be reduced by 50 percent, thanks to the flexible character of 3D printed manufacturing and materials such as carbon fibers.
Thanks to CAD modelling, it has also become possible to create parametric shapes that at first glance appear to be very delicate, complicated, and in places ‘impossible’ to make. This blends the purity of obsessive focus, to mass saving and exceptional visual & tactile qualities.
Aston Martin states that the AM-RB 003 is strictly limited, therefore he plans to build no more than 500 units worldwide, with first examples reaching customers in late 2021.
