Applications for automotive

Unique and personalized car parts enabled with digital manufacturing

Twikit has developed applications that can be used as plug and play with standardized templates. New ideas and applications can be designed together on request.

Light weight structures

Lose weight, gain aesthetics

One of the big automotive challenges is reducing vehicle weight in order to lower emissions or to lengthen battery life. Each and every car part counts when it comes to weight savings, but skimping on aesthetics is not possible for demanding car buyers.

3D-printed car parts (based on open, lattice-style structures) allow to minimize the weight and make the look stand out. Complex patterns and open structures are easy to customize. By incorporating parametric design concepts, car parts can have a totally different look when some parameters are changed.

Twikit technology prevents parts from being over-modified through pre-defined design options. For example, a part’s strength is key. Each and every part (including the customization options) will be assessed for its strength and durability.

  • Parametric design to the fullest
  • High impact aesthetics
  • Strength and durability guaranteed through limitations in design options
  • Double digit weight savings possible
Leather stamping

Personalization made accessible for an age-old craft

Leather is paramount when considering bespoke, high quality car interior finishes. The craft of leather stamping and embossing is widely applied by car brands to add a brand’s logo, model or edition name.

Twikit developed an application that allows customers of car brands, or sales advisors, to create unique 3D stamps that can be printed for the leather embossing process giving cars a personalized feel. Next to the “design-to-stamp” flow, Twikit also developed a 3D-print process to generate stamp pads and create the perfect stamp on leather.

  • Bespoke personalization for leather parts in series of one
  • Accessible technology replacing expensive processes
  • Flexible and fast turnaround time for stamp production
Interior and exterior customization

New dimensions to interior and exterior customization

The automotive industry has two big challenges: reducing the complexity to manufacturing and offering a truly personalized experience for customers. Giving a car full options still does not mean a buyer can claim that his vehicle is unique or individualized.

Exclusive trim lines are one way owners can stand outbut nevertheless most people still want something they can personally identify with. Personalization, however, does not have to mean expensive. It can cover a wide spectrum of applications and finishes—all which the owner can personally select.

Twikit offers a wide range of specific interior parts customization such as:

  • Dashboard fascia
  • Glove box cover
  • Side panel fascia & inlay
  • Center console unit
  • Gear knob
  • Rotary switches
  • Air vent fins
  • Door sill guards
  • Leather embossing (with 3D printed stamps)

Exterior parts individualization available:

  • Side and rear badge
  • Light unit cover or insert
  • Fender and side kit details (add-on)
  • Wheel inserts or blades
  • Stickering and wrapping
  • Front grill

Additive technologies

Parts can be manufactured with additive technologies based on polymer or metal finishes with many different technologies such as coating, dyeing, vaporfusing, painting or even 2D printing directly on the part. Next to additive manufacturing also CNC, laser engraving and cutting are applied to create truly unique parts

  • Ideal for applying structures, patterns and surface tactility
  • High impact on aesthetics and general styling of the interior and exterior
  • Many different materials and finishes possible
  • Strength and durability guaranteed by limitations in design options
Stickering and wrapping

The adaptable way an appearance can be massively transformed

For long, the only thing that could be changed about a car’s appearance was the exterior color. Now, the car exterior’s vast surface holds the opportunity to go beyond the paint to create something unique.

With the Twikit customization applications for stickering and wrapping, customers (or sales advisors) can compose or design their own styling whether it is based on striping and lettering or creative patterns and color styles.

With stickering, designs are digitally generated in a customer-friendly front-end to be cut out or printed on automotive grade foils. Wrapping is realized by direct printing on car wrapping foil. Both technologies offer endless possibilities with high visual impact.

  • Ideal for high visual impact on the car exterior with color and design concepts
  • Proven technologies made accessible for easy to use and scalable personalization
  • Strength and durability guaranteed by industry standards for automotive use
Lighting

Light as a structure or material

Since LED was introduced in car interiors many new applications have seen the light: indicative light, ambient light, multi-colored light are all common and considered the standard for every modern car.

The small footprint of LED modules makes it easy to integrate with detailed finishes and effects. Together with technology partners, Twikit developed a way to combine the best of automotive grade LED systems with 3D-printed, customized “light covers.”

The surfaces and structures of these covers are customizable and deliver lighted interior trims that create a true 3D effect.

Twikit offers possibilities for interior and exterior light customization based on light covers that can be added on top of standard light modules such as fog lights, light bars, rear light inserts and much more.

  • Ideal for refined personalized visual impact on the car interior or exterior
  • Create new ambient light concepts with 3D structures
  • Use light as a material and design finish
Car wheels

A new dimensions to exterior customization

The car wheel inserts can be manufactured with additive technologies based on polymer or metal finishes with many different technologies such as coating, dyeing, vaporfusing, painting or even 2D printing directly on the part. Next to additive manufacturing also CNC, laser engraving and cutting are applied to create truly unique parts

  • Ideal for applying structures, patterns and surface tactility
  • High impact on aesthetics and general styling of the rim
  • Many different materials and finishes possible
  • Strength and durability guaranteed by limitations in design options
