For their new sports car, Aston Martin once again joined forces with Red Bull Advanced technologies. This time they’ve come up with the AM-RB 003—the next-generation hybrid hypercar that not only draws from the ethos and DNA of the Aston Martin Valkyrie, but will in turn influence Aston Martin’s first series production mid-engined. This new supercar’s objective is clear: reduce the gap between the Valkyrie and Vanquish and eliminate as much weight as possible to generate maximum speed by taking advantage of 3D printing.
To achieve the least weight possible in this new supercar, Aston Martin chose not to include a dashboard touchscreen. Instead, for navigation, or to perhaps tap through a Spotify playlist, you will have to stash your phone in the dashboard compartment.
Known for avant-garde car designs, Aston Martin will not surprise with its boundary- pushing manufacturing methods such as 3D printing in the development of the interior and some of its finishes. For example, the thin center console is able to reduce material use by 50%, thanks to the flexible nature of 3D printed manufacturing and materials such as carbon fibers.
CAD modeling has also allowed parametric shapes, which at first glance appear to be very delicate, complicated, and even in some areas “impossible” to make. Overcoming these challenges required a blend of obsessive focus, savings and exceptional visual & tactile qualities.
Aston Martin states that the AM-RB 003 is a strictly limited edition with plans to build no more than 500 units worldwide. The first models will reach the lucky select customers in late 2021.
